Addie Barnhart

From a young age, I was always creating. As a mover, singer, and storyteller I grew up in Wichita, Kansas with a midwestern work ethic and the privilege to create as a visual and performing artist. It is no surprise that more than two decades later I’m still a multi-disciplinary teaching artist, director, and actor now based out of Omaha, Nebraska. My access to theatre and education has made me a passionate collaborator and opinionated artist moving from Musical Theatre into Acting and Directing. I started my education at Missouri State University gaining a BFA in Acting which gave me my first professional theatre credit with Tent Theatre and allowed me the connections that led to working across the United States with Northwestern University, Missoula Children’s Theatre, and Two River Theatre Company. My passion for education and teaching life skills through theatre was the gateway to a Master’s Degree at Louisiana State University where I earned an M.F.A. in Acting. I am an associate director with Stage Directors and Choreographers Union, a member of the Association of Theatre Movement Educators, and an EMC member of Actor’s Equity. I’ve worked regionally as an actor and director with Playmaker’s Theatre, Virginia Repertory/Cadence Theatre, TheatreLAB (now The Conciliation Lab) Virginia Opera, Quill Theatre, Crown Uptown, and Swine Palace.

Since moving from the non-profit world into full-time academia, I’ve expanded my work as a freelance consultant, coach, and actor while building skills in Intimacy Choreography and Coordination. I’ve made more steps into private coaching for dialect and self-tape work during the pandemic - supporting artists who are submitting to callbacks for major film, television, AEA tours and Broadway callbacks. I’m currently an Assistant Professor of Theatre at Creighton University where I am the head of Acting and Movement. I spend my free time doing things that have nothing to do with theatre like planting a garden, reading, caring for my fur children, and exploring Nebraska with my partner, George.

with love,

Addie
