Artistic Philosophy

I believe all humans are capable of creative expression. You do not have to have the “IT FACTOR” to be a captivating storyteller, and not all artists are destined to perform on Broadway. I see the value in the arts as a means to humanity; through the lens of another we can find common ground and empathy. 

There should be no more masters - the act of training NOW is entrenched in the need to decolonize our practices and approach to training. There is no one right way to be an artist, and it is my mission as a creative and educator to bring tools to the individual to enrich their own toolbox while expanding my own through continued training. Artists are life-long learners and I am hungry and curious to expand my practice to become a better actor, teacher, and director.

I value agency and transparency in my practice, which includes pay transparency and casting transparency. Boundaries and consent are an important and necessary part of our industry and it is never too early to begin bringing in good practices into process.

Representing the world as it is on stage is more interesting to me than homogenous storytelling - I want to see people of all ages, sizes, races, genders, languages and (dis)abilities in art. It’s time we move beyond “white is right” and remember that everyone has a story to tell and theatre is a place where we can be on the front lines of change.
